What is Give Local?
Hosted by the Community Foundation of South Puget Sound, Give Local is a two-week online giving campaign from November 11-22 to support nonprofits serving Lewis, Mason, and Thurston counties. Participating nonprofits will have their own organization page to share their work and missions in action. Nonprofit pages will be accessible to all community members for support and donations on spsgives.org.
Why Participate in Give Local?
Give Local is an easy and fun way to connect to local nonprofits. We believe everyone can participate by giving back to their community, and no gift is too small. From November 11-22, visit spsgives.org to discover nonprofits supporting causes you care about across Lewis, Mason, and Thurston County. You can even reside outside of Washington and still participate. If you care about the South Puget Sound region, you can "Give Local"!
Why is Give Local important?
In each of our communities, nonprofits provide critical programs and services for our people and lands. Whether it's engaging programs for our local youth and seniors, keeping our natural spaces healthy and clean, helping address food insecurity, and so much more, you will be amazed by all the wonderful things nonprofits do across our region. When you participate in Give Local, you feel good while doing good.
What if I can't find my favorite nonprofit on the Give Local site?
All qualified 501(c)(3) public charities in Lewis, Mason, and Thurston counties are welcome to register for Give Local, but teams may choose not to participate for various reasons. If you wish to support a nonprofit not on the listing of Give Local participants, please email Mary Lam-Witcher (she/her) at mary@thecommunityfoundation.com or call our offices at 360.705.3340 for assistance in making a gift through the Community Foundation.
When is early giving?
Early giving is one week long and will occur from November 4 - November 10 at 11:59 pm. It allows you to jumpstart your chosen nonprofit's Give Local campaign before it launches to the public. Keep an eye out for information from your favorite nonprofit causes about how to give early.

Can I make my gift by check?
We strongly encourage online donations to the Give Local platform, but cash, checks, stock, and other types of gifts will be accepted. To have your gift count toward an organization's Give Local total, please be sure to send in your check before Friday, November 22. For additional questions, please call us at 360.705.3340.

Can I make a Give Local gift through my donor advised fund or individual retirement account?
Yes! Donations made via a fund held at the Community Foundation of South Puget Sound (or elsewhere) can count toward Give Local. See instructions on how to initiate your gift transfers here.
Is my gift tax deductible?
Give Local donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Immediately after making your gift, you will receive a confirmation email from ‘support@mightycause.com'. This email will include the necessary tax information, and be sure to save this correspondence for your tax records. If you didn't receive the email or need another copy, please log in to your donor account and follow these instructions. If you checked out as a guest, email support@mightycause.com for assistance.
How do I access a past donation receipt?
If you need a copy of a past donation receipt, log in to your donor account and follow these instructions. If you checked out as a guest, email support@mightycause.com for assistance.
Is my gift safe and secure?
Yes. Mightycause powers the Give Local website and is secure, PCI compliant, and encrypted using SSL certificates. Your payment information is never saved on Mightycause or the Community Foundation of South Puget Sound’s servers. You can be sure your data is protected when you donate during Give Local.
May I get a refund if there is an error with my gift?
While charitable donations made via Give Local are irrevocable, we will process refunds if there are extenuating circumstances related to the transaction. If you have an issue with your donation, please contact us by phone at 360.705.3340 by 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 2, and we will review your case.
How much of my gift goes to the nonprofit?
All of it! Every online donation has a standard transaction fee assessed by the credit card company and fees associated with the Give Local online giving platform. You will have the option to cover those fees at checkout or, thanks to the generous support of our Give Local Sponsors, the Community Foundation of South Puget Sound will cover those fees, ensuring that 100% of the donations go to the nonprofit(s) of your choosing.
For the first time, all donors have the option to cover credit card and transaction fees during checkout. This is because the Give Local fundraising software now includes a fee for each transaction. By covering these fees, you help ensure that 100% of your donation goes directly to nonprofit missions. Any remaining fees will be covered by event sponsors and the Community Foundation.
How will I be recognized as a donor?
You will receive an immediate thank you and a tax receipt via email from 'support@mightycause.com'. At checkout, you can state whether you want your name and donation to appear on the Give Local website or if you prefer to remain anonymous.
Does the nonprofit see my name?
Yes. If you give via the Give Local platform, the nonprofit you support will be notified of your gift. Choosing to remain anonymous means your name won't be published on the Give Local online platform. If you are interested in making a 100% anonymous gift, please contact Mary Lam-Witcher (she/her) at mary@thecommunityfoundation.com or call 360.705.3340.
Does the Community Foundation receive any portion of the donations or fees?
No, the Community Foundation of South Puget Sound does not receive any portion of your donation or the related transaction fees. However, you can help support Give Local by making a gift through the Community Foundation's nonprofit page.
How does the Bonus Fund work?
Every dollar your organization raises will be stretched with a $100,000 Bonus Fund generously provided by the Dawkins Charitable Trust. Your nonprofit is automatically eligible to receive these Bonus Fund dollars as a part of your participation in Give Local. The Bonus Fund is a proportional match that increases the value of every dollar your organization is gifted during Give Local. For example, if a nonprofit organization raises 5% of the total amount of money raised during Give Local, that same nonprofit receives 5% of the $100,000 Bonus Fund (0.05 x $100,000 = $5,000). Every nonprofit that raises money during Give Local will get some portion of the Bonus Fund. However, no organization will receive more than $7,500 of the Bonus Fund. So, for example, if your organization raises 20% of all the funds raised during Give Local, your match will be capped at $7,500. This "cap" is in place to ensure that all participating nonprofits will get the chance to benefit from the Bonus Fund.
What is Giving Wednesday?
Community members who make gifts on Give Local Wednesdays (November 13 and November 20) will automatically be entered into a drawing to win $100 for a participating Give Local nonprofit of their choice.
Community Foundation of South Puget Sound will announce the winners on their Facebook and Instagram accounts (@tcfsps) and the spsgives.org homepage by the end of each week. Winners will also receive a follow-up email from the Community Foundation and have two business days to direct $100 to the participating Give Local nonprofit of their choice.
Drawing entries are limited to one per person. To be entered, you must make a minimum $5 donation. Donors who choose to donate anonymously will not be entered. Please follow our social media accounts (@tcfsps) to join in on the fun!
