As we all know the pandemic disrupted the lives of young people everywhere, affecting their mental health, education outcomes, and social-emotional engagement. Along with growing awareness of the mental health crisis among young people, many, especially those with marginalized identities face systemic inequities and social injustices. Which can lead to high rates of anxiety, depression and other mental health issues.
Our youth empowerment programs are designed to address the needs of people with marginalized identities, providing them with the tools and resources to navigate challenges and become engaged community members. Through opportunities for fellowship and learning we also foster resilience, confidence and leadership skills for young people in our community.
All of our Youth activities are aligned with YWCA’s mission of: All people are valued, live free from oppression and thrive in a just society. Along with this we strive to work with an intersectional model that places the leadership and wisdom of women and girls. We do this while also seeking to engage with people of all races and genders in the collective work of YWCA Olympia.
From organizing peer activism groups and academic achievements to community leadership roles, these young individuals are breaking barriers and reshaping their futures. They give us hope!
Will you help support YWCA in bringing empowering programs to hundreds of young people across Thurston County? Their success stories are a testament to the transformative power of community and belonging. With your help we can truly strive to live in a world free from oppression and help build a more just society.
