Mission
Capitol Land Trust’s (CLT) mission is to strategically conserve vital natural areas and working lands in the South Puget Sound and Chehalis Basin watersheds.
Description
The South Puget Sound region of Washington is one of extraordinary beauty and ecological diversity. But it is also one that is growing rapidly.
Through our conservation work we’re helping to ensure that our region remains a place with clean water to drink, clean air to breathe, healthy populations of native fish and wildlife, and natural open spaces that help define our communities.
We prioritize conserving properties with estuaries, marine shorelines, wetlands, rivers and riparian areas, prairies, and forests because of the crucial role they play in supporting the health and vitality of our communities.
Natural open spaces and healthy habitats are essential to the exceptional quality of life we enjoy in our region. We’re working to keep it that way. Forever.
The high standard of our work has earned national accreditation by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission.
Your Support Pushes Conservation Work Forward
We recently crossed the 100 properties conserved milestone. These properties permanently protect 19 miles of Puget Sound shoreline, 23 estuaries, 60 miles of freshwater rivers and streams, and 6,600 acres of vital habitat.
Your Support Restores Important Habitat
In 2023, we broke ground on a restoration project to improve habitat for the state endangered Oregon spotted frog. 24 ponds were dug and then planted with 40,000 native plants. Egg masses were spotted in the restored wetland the following breeding season!
Your Support Builds The Next Generation of Conservation Leaders
2024 was our biggest youth engagement year to date. Our outdoor learning programs served over 1,300 young people from our area. Our 2024 events engaged hundreds of community members in fun outdoor experiences that inspire support for our conservation mission.
Your Support Keeps Our Trails Free of Charge
CLT owns and manages four properties for public access where the community can directly experience the benefits of nature. Generous donations help ensure trails remain free of charge and safe for users.
Your Support Makes A Difference
Land doesn’t conserve itself. People conserve land.
As a non-profit organization we rely on the goodwill of people who care as deeply about protecting our landscapes as we do. Throughout our 37-year history, we have formed powerful partnerships with concerned organizations to amplify the impact of our work. We will continue to pursue these types of partnerships, ensuring that our work meets the needs of our diverse communities.
Our success is also dependent on the many individuals who have supported us throughout the years and who continue to do so.
To date, we’ve protected more than 100 properties comprising 6,600 acres and 19 miles of Puget Sound shoreline.
If you support what we do, a donation today will help us continue important conservation work.
